UPSC
Know this exam before you sit it
Who it's for
Graduates (any discipline) who meet the age and attempt limits for the Civil Services Examination, aiming for IAS, IPS, IFS, and other central civil services.
Exam pattern
- Prelims (objective, screening only) →
- Mains (descriptive, includes an optional subject) →
- Personality Test (interview)
Before exam day
- This is a year-long preparation, not a last-week sprint — pace your CSAT and GS practice
- Current affairs compounds — review regularly rather than cramming
- Keep every document (age/category/education proof) ready well before the DAF stage
We deliberately don't publish applicant counts or cutoff ranks here. Both swing sharply every year by category, institute, branch, and counselling round — a number quoted today is likely wrong by the time you sit the exam. For current figures, go straight to the exam's own conducting body (NTA for JEE/NEET, UPSC for civil services, IBPS/SBI for banking, SSC, your regional RRB for Railway, or your state's Public Service Commission) — that's the only source that won't mislead you.
